The language is intentionally left in Dutch-influenced-English for its flavor

This is the kind of book you can open at random to any page and it always seems to provide you with exactly what you need to know at the moment. You don't need to spend time reading it from cover to cover, although many people do just that. It is the kind of book you put on your night-stand or coffee table and flip open for inspiration when the mood strikes you.

SAMPLE CHAPTER
Chapter 4 builds on the concepts established in the previous three chapters. Yet without them you will nevertheless be intrigued by the ideas presented. You do not have to believe the ideas presented. You may even resist them. Just practice what you read and observe the results. Change will occur... Experience is always the most convincing... and you will experience what you give your attention to.
CHAPTER 4 : YOU GET WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT
Before anything manifests itself in your life, you must first have had the conscious or unconscious thought. Thought always precedes creation. Your power through thought is enormous. You can use your thoughts to enhance the quality of your life or to diminish it. So, be aware of what you think!
Believing is Seeing
We are raised with the idea that seeing is believing.
Everything actually starts with believing and from that belief comes the creation of what we want to see. You have the thought, you believe in that thought and - lo and behold - you will see what you believe materialize before your very eyes.
If you are upset about something you see, or upset about what is happening to you, find out what you believe. What you see, is the result of what you believe and have therefor created.
Self Fulfilling Prophesies
"I knew it, I told you this would happen." How often have you heard this?
When a person states: "It's awful to go to work on Mondays," how do you think this person will feel throughout the day? He most likely will create a rotten day for himself, like grumpy customers or lost documents. Then he will be able to confirm: "I knew it, Mondays are such awful days."
When a person says: "If I eat this dessert, I will gain weight," this person will indeed gain weight. By anticipating the gaining of weight, he assure himself that he will. Unless he becomes aware of what he is thinking and changes his thought about gaining weight, he will create the result he anticipates.
Counterproductive Thinking
The more we think of negative things and talk about them, the more we experience them in your life.
If we view teenagers as lazy people who use drugs, carry guns, and who are sexually active, we will meet lots of teenagers who fit that description. That's what our thoughts are attracting. If instead, we concentrate their creative qualities and emphasize those qualities, we will attract this kind of teenagers.
We have a tendency to dwell upon the things that go wrong. The drama of it seems to intrigue us. Paying too much attention to negatives, keeps us focused on the negative feelings.*
Have we forgotten to 'accentuate the positive?'
Focus your attention upon solutions rather then problems. Instead of continually talking about it, use your creative energy to solve the problem.
A research was conducted at the University of Wisconsin to measure the affect of positive affirmation. A teacher, whose second graders continually got up from their chairs, was instructed to tell them three times a minute, to sit down. The children continued moving around. Then the teacher was instructed to stop saying "sit down" to the wandering children and to pay attention only to those children who remained seated. She affirmed their good behavior and praised the projects they were working on. Within 20 minutes not one child was found to be out of his seat!
* In Part II, Chapter 5, I cover in full detail the effect of negative thinking and how to change that.
'Well Intentioned' Warnings!
A great deal of advertising emphasizes 'bad things.' Smoking is bad. Gaining weight is bad. Wrinkles are bad. The list is endless. When I am around people who smoke, I often hear remarks about how harmful it is for their health. That may be true, but why give that idea so much attention? If it bothers you that somebody smokes, certainly say so, but after that, drop it.
If enough people think smoking effects health, it will. Interestingly enough, if enough people thought salads were bad for your health, salads would indeed start to have ill effects...........!
You can change your emotional response by changing your thoughts
Unwanted Thoughts
Some thoughts keep repeatedly popping up, often at moments when we are tired, depressed or under stress. Thoughts, like: 'Nothing ever works out,' 'I am no good at this,' or 'I don't deserve this.'
Such thoughts diminish our capabilities to a great extent.
In Part II, Chapter 6, I will discuss those types of thoughts and reactions in more detail and how to deal with them effectively.
It's encouraging to know that you do have the power to change ingrained beliefs, regardless of how powerful they appear to be.
If you change your viewpoint, your environment changes to conform to the new viewpoint. This is how you change your circumstances.*
Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP) is based upon the same principle. NLP practitioners claim that by altering our words, thoughts and emotions, we can change or re-program unhealthy behavior.
How to Make your Thinking Powerful
1. Be aware of the mood you are in. If you feel tired, depressed or angry, you will create what you feel. And what you so dearly wanted, won't happen.
The time to plant thoughts is when you are feeling okay.
2. Be alert to what you think. You think most of the time and you create thoughts continuously. Become aware at which point your thought patterns begin to move in the direction of what you don't want.
To redirect your thoughts, be silent for a while to stop the constant flow of thoughts and to connect up with our Basic Source again. You need to be, before we can have and do.
First, there is the State of Being. In that state of being you know that you are connected with the Basic Source. You determine what and how you want to feel. It's from this frame of mind that you plant your thoughts.
3. When you make a decision, you give that thought energy and then you release it like a homing pigeon. The thought develops its own existence. If you think no contrary thoughts, there is no other outcome possible.
Where your thoughts lead, your experience will follow.
How to Get the Best Results
1. Your thoughts should support the common good. Send out your thought into the universe and then allow the universe to respond.* This process is automatic and effortless. It allows events to happen in their own time and place. The universe will fill in the details .
2. The clearer you are about your intention, with your thoughts focused, the better results you will get. Your thinking initiates the process of 'becoming'. It will actually start taking physical shape.
3. If you try to force something to happen, it won't happen, because you are trying to force your will upon the universe. Creation is effortless and should be originating from a viewpoint of trust.
4. Watch out for conflicting thoughts, such as doubts about whether you can do it. Such thoughts divert you from your main intention. The main thought gets diluted and you end up with something other then what you intended.
The universe can't obey multiple conflicting commands. If you offer the universe choices, confusion results.
There must be a harmony between what you think and feel in order to get the right response If what you say you want, is different from what you feel, you will experience what you feel.
For example: I talked with a woman, who complained that when she went on job interviews the interviews went very well, yet no one offered her a job. She assured me that she really wanted a job. Together we discovered that although she said she wanted a job, she actually felt differently. She felt that although working would provide her with an income, she would lose her freedom and time. After these contradictions were resolved she actually 'felt' willing to become employed. Within 10 days she had found a suitable job.
If the universe hasn't responded to you so far, find out what you are really focused upon.
Keeping your Thoughts alive
There are different ways ways of keeping your thoughts alive. Like affirmations, visualizations, pictures, or through communications with others.
In his book, Real Magic, Dr. Wayne Dyer suggests, to act in life as if your thoughts have already manifested themselves. By doing that, your mind-set changes and you encourage the universe to respond to your intentions.
It's doesn't matter which alternative you choose, as long as you keep on creating what you want to happen.
Keep in mind that the subjects that receive the most thought will become your main experience.
A single Thought, creates many Ripples
Often I hear people mention that they, of themselves, can not create the world they really want.
It isn't necessary to wait until many people have the same thought in order to create the change you want. If you change your mind you will experience change in your own life. It is already working for you and you will be amazed how that energy expands.
End of Chapter 4.......There is more...Much more ...................
